That was what it was, today – India vs Pakistan, third test match, final day. If only India had declared earlier, they would’ve given themselves a chance of winning. It’s no wonder they say test cricket is the real cricket! It’s a bowler’s game – you’ve got to take 20 wickets to win the game, and India almost managed to do it! It was fabulous to watch Anil Kumble going on an all out attack – runs didn’t matter, wickets did. At one point he had all 9 fielders in close catching positions – two slips, a gully, silly point, silly mid-off, forward short leg, backward short leg, sillly mid-on and short midwicket – yes, that adds up to nine! It was a joy to watch that. I was reminded of that Australia vs West Indies test match a few years back, in which Mcgrath was bowling to the last Windies batsman, with all nine fielders standing in the slip cordon…
FOSS.IN

I’m back home, after foss.in. I had a great time there, with Hiran and company. The best thing about free software is that, you get to meet some really fantastic people! I had been a bit “out of touch” with the free software world, of late. After the summer vacation last year, I was very excited about FOSS and I used to drag everyone who passed by, into a conversation about free software. I don’t know why, but over the course of the last semester, I simply lost all that motivation. Got to revive my enthusiasm! Sometimes I feel like I’m travelling in two boats at the same time, due to the absence of any such community there at NITC…
At Last…

… I was able to sync the iPod nano which Gopuettan brought me, using my computer. I upgraded my computer from Ubuntu 6.06 to 7.10 a couple of days ago, and now I can edit the playlists using gtkpod. I tried many things on my old Ubuntu, to get the iPod working, but in vain. I was stubbornly putting off using it, until I got it work with my computer (I could’ve uploaded songs using iTunes on one of my friends’ computers). After much taunting from my friends, I finally loaded a few Hindi songs. And it was a joke among them that you could “even listen to music” on my iPod…
I hate the way Apple have made the iPod firmware. Why couldn’t they have made one which could simply play mp3 files, instead of having to “sync” it with a special software?
